The Vanquished

Know that you’ve to give in to your destiny,

Stand howsoever you tall-

Honestly, love, compassion will count little,

In spite of your virtues, you may’ve to fall.

Even if you’ve done good to others

And travelled all along the sunlit path-

Chances are, in a bizzare turn of my life,

You’ve to face destiny’s wrath.

Cruel hand of fate many snatch from you

Your entire world, your peace of mind-

Why such a fate befall you did

Answer to that you’ll never find.

Life’s vagaries and vicissitudes

Can often take you by surprise,

You might be caught totally off-guard

Even though you think you’re wise.

History is shown with examples galore

When the wicked  rises despite their sin

While the good and honourable abjectly fail.

Even perseverance may not yield much,

Endurance too many fail the test-

Your knife heart will cry aloud

But will cry alone, stunned as you’re by the rest.

I pray for you so that such quirks of fate

You do not have to ever fend,

Yet, if undeserved anguish does ever engulf you-

Come, live with me and be my friend.
