Post-Contagion Times

And when this is all over,

we will simply unmask ourselves.

This would be a sacred act-

this ceremony of revealing.

For now we know, having seen

the death-dance up and close,

how it is fiercely about one breath at

a time, one dawn to wake up to, alive.

Much will be new when the mask is gone.

Like those new lines on our faces;

the footprints of the times of molten grief

on sudden demises, unprecedented losses.

We will run our fingers slowly on them,

mine will linger at your fissure of fear,

yours will ponder on the crater of my sorrow-

our marks left by the volcanic times.

But all that will be when we are finally  unmasked, our souls bared,

when all this is over.
