There I was another lonely boring walk to school, no friends, no excitement in my life. Sometimes I wonder if people even notice I’m here. Little did I know when I woke up today, that things were going to change. I was almost to school when I heard a voice yelling, “help, help me Steven!” I turned to look, and there was this girl in the alley with her back up against the building, and a man in front of her as if he meant to do her harm.
I ran over to her and asked, “are you okay?” She was crying and said, “no, please help me.” The man looked at me and said, “get lost runt, this isn’t any of your business.” He reached to grab her, but before he could I grabbed his wrist. He turned to swing at me, and my seven years of martial arts training took over. He was laying on the ground whimpering, and I asked her again, “are you okay?” “I am now, my name is Tabitha, thank you so much Steven.” “How do you know my name?” Her face turned a little red with embarrassment.
“Well, I sort of have a crush on you,” she said. “Do you go to Piedmont High School too?” She said, “Yes, but only for about three weeks now, I just moved here from New Jersey and don’t have many friends yet.” I said, “Well I have lived here my whole life and if you have one friend you are doing better than me.” She walked over and hugged my neck and said, “You have a friend now.”
I was instantly smitten by her beauty, and she had the charm to go with it. We walked to school together, and she explained that the guy attacking her was her mom’s boyfriend, and he is not nice at all. She asked me, “where did you learn to fight like that?”
I said, “I have been studying Aikido for seven years.” “Do you think you could teach it to me?” “Yeah, I could show you some defense moves to get out of an attack.”
After school she walked with me to my house and I introduced her to my mom. “Mom, this is Tabitha.” “Tabitha this is my mom, Rhonda.” Tabitha said, “it’s nice to meet you ma’am, your son saved me this morning.” Mom said, “oh really, what happened?” “It was nothing mom, her mom’s boyfriend was trying to rough her up and I made him stop.” “Made him stop huh, I bet you did.” Mom knew me so well.
Tabitha and I went out to the back yard and I was showing her how to get out of different holds. Being so close to her excited me and she smelled so good. Her long blonde hair smelled like strawberries, and there was a faint hint of perfume. She seemed to like it when I touched her, as much as I liked touching her. After we were done practicing, I showed her my little hangout in the garage. It was just an old couch in the corner and a couple tables, and a stereo on one.
We sat and talked about everything, and when we started talking about boyfriends and girlfriends, I told her, “I have never had a girlfriend.” She said, “Really, never?” I shook my head no. “So, you have never kissed a girl before?” Again, I shook my head no. She scooted closer to me and slowly leaned in, my heart began to race, and I felt short of breath. Softly her lips touched mine, and the whole world disappeared for a moment. It was just me and her coming together as one. Her hand gently caressed the side of my face and neck as she slowly pulled back to look me in the eyes.
“How was that?” “That was the best feeling ever.” She smiled and said, “what about this?” She took my hand and placed it on her soft, but perky breast. My heart is really racing now, and I feel like it’s going to beat right out of my chest. We laid there making out for easily an hour, when she said, “I hate to, but I really have to get home.” I said, “I understand, I’ll walk you home, where do you live?” “It’s about three blocks I think from here.” I said, “Just let me tell mom, and we can go.” I yelled in the door, “Mom, I’m walking Tabitha home!” “Okay honey, hurry back supper is almost done.”
We held hands all the way home and talked about going to the prom together. It was nice to have a girlfriend, especially after not having any friends. When we got to her house she introduced me to her mom, Joyce. Tabitha told her what happened with her boyfriend in the alley. Joyce said, “thank you so much Steven for helping my baby, I will get a restraining order against him.” “I was happy to help, and I think she will be able to hold her own now.” Joyce went inside to call the police and Tabitha and I kissed goodnight, and after reluctantly pulling out of her embrace I started to walk slowly home.
I felt like I was floating above the clouds as I said to myself, “So, this is love.” After dinner and a shower, I laid in my bed thinking about what the future would bring now that Tabitha and I were in love. I closed my eyes and drifted off to dream of Love’s first encounter.
