We spend time and effort worshiping a warrior goddess and we still treat our women so poorly? We come across Durga in various forms in various places all throughout the year. We worship Goddess but we do not give the women in our lives, their due respect. It is an irony that in India we worship so many Goddess (Durga, Kali, Saraswati, Kali, Basanti) and we do not prefer the birth of a girl child and beat the mother when she is not able to deliver a male child. We do not worship the same qualities in our women at home. A woman takes the major responsibility of her family almost always.
Let us stop playing and start praying the women of our society, let us make sure that all our domestic Goddesses get the respect they deserve. Women indulge in activities everywhere be it in sports field, farming, fighter pilot, vegetable vendor, construction site, household, chore, NGO, teacher, army and the list goes on….
We celebrate Durga Puja asking for blessings from the Goddesses, but it would have been better if we could worship the feminine power living and breathing among us.
